Abu Dhabi: Zayed International Airport early reopening after major update

Abu Dhabi Airports has announced the early reopening of the Northern Runway (13L/31R) at Zayed International Airport, following a successful rehabilitation project. Key upgrades included reinforcing the runway with 210,000 tonnes of asphalt, installing a new ground visibility monitoring system, and implementing a state-of-the-art Instrument Landing System (ILS) for improved precision. Additionally, over 1,200 halogen airfield lights were replaced with energy-efficient LEDs, showcasing a commitment to sustainability.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, commended the project for reflecting the UAE's dedication to innovation in aviation. Elena Sorlini, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, noted that the project’s timely completion was due to meticulous planning and collaboration. The reopening of the Northern Runway will enhance the airport's ability to manage increasing air traffic demand, as operations continued smoothly on the Southern Runway during the renovation.
