Saudi: Bidding is open for “Coffee City”
Saudi Arabia has initiated a project in the southwestern Al-Baha region to establish its first "coffee city," inviting bids from coffee producers to acquire lots in the area. The country aims to bolster its position as a major coffee producer, akin to Brazil. The designated area for coffee cultivation spans 5.5 square kilometers in the mountainous Al-Qalwah governorate, with plans to plant at least 300,000 coffee trees. Interested parties can submit bids through the Saudi ministry’s online platform until September 9. The initiative is supported by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) through its subsidiary, the Saudi Coffee Company, which recently launched the Jazean brand and plans to invest SAR1 billion ($270 million) over the next decade in coffee production in the region.
