RTA Tenders Dubai Metro's $4.9 Billion Blue Line Expansion: MEED Report

Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has issued tender documents for the design and construction of the Dubai Metro's Blue Line, signaling progress in the city's transportation infrastructure.

Six consortiums, including international companies from South Korea, China, Japan, Germany, India, Spain, Egypt, Italy, and France, have been prequalified to bid for the contract. The Blue Line, with a 30-kilometer route, aims to serve over a million residents in various areas of Dubai, including Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Festival City, and Dubai Academic City.

The project, announced in November 2023 with a total cost of $4.9 billion, is part of Dubai's broader urban development plan, aiming to create a '20-minute city' where essential services are within easy reach for residents.

The Blue Line is expected to transport 320,000 passengers per day and is scheduled to start full commercial operations in 2029, with construction anticipated to begin in 2025 after the project award in 2024.
