Dubai Unveils $35B Plan for World's Largest Airport
Since its opening 14 years ago, DWC - Al Maktoum International in Dubai has aimed to become the world's largest passenger-handling airport. Originally projected to accommodate a significant number of passengers, plans have now expanded dramatically. The new goal is for the airport to eventually handle 260 million passengers annually, surpassing previous estimates by 100 million passengers. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's ruler, announced this plan as part of Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects’ strategic vision. The megahub will be five times larger than the current Dubai International Airport and will eventually absorb all operations from the existing airport. It will boast 400 aircraft gates and feature five parallel runways, solidifying its status as a global aviation hub.
